THE GROUP

The Group is Shelocta Community Presbyterian’s gospel singing, bluegrass playing, vocal ministry. The Group brings their music ministry to worship approximately one Sunday per month. The piano, guitar, and harmonica music is often supplemented by mandolin and vocals. They have released one CD of music, distributed by the church.

THE SESSION

The Session is the board of elected elders of the church. The Session governs the activities of the local church, with work completed by committees. All who worship here are welcomed to serve on committees. The current committee structure includes:

Property – ministering through the maintenance of the building and grounds. Stewardship – ministering through the faithful stewardship of monies collected. Christian Education – ministering through the provision of opportunities to build relationships with God, deepening our understanding of what it means to be a disciple, and encouraging spiritual growth. Worship – ministering through the provision of worship opportunities, not only on Sunday morning, but at various times throughout the year, and providing worship one Sunday a month for the residents at Maple Valley Personal Care Home. Mission – ministering by guiding the church’s direction in the mission field. Evangelism – ministering by bringing the gospel message to those outside the church walls through special events and communication. Spiritual Life – ministering by helping each worshiper to identify places where he or she may grow deeper in his or her walk with Christ, connecting members with ministry opportunities, and issuing reminders of prayer concerns for the church and community.

THE DEACONS

The Deacons is the elected board whose focus is compassion and caring ministries. The Deacons care for our shut-in members, for the hospitalized, and for the needy. They support local ministries such as the ICCAP PowerPack lunch program and the Food Pantry.

YOUTH GROUP

The Youth Group, for students in junior and senior high school, is a ministry for deepening the spiritual lives of the students. The students impact the lives of people through various mission projects. The students lead worship for the Maundy Thursday service and the All Saints Sunday. As well, the students have time for great fellowship.

KIRWA "A"

The church recently celebrated its 10 year anniversary being in partnership with the chapel at Kirwa “A” in Rwanda (Africa). The church has provided funds for building the chapel, for a sound system, for pastoral support, for uniforms for the school children, for healthcare for the children, and for farm animals that will help some of the families earn an income. An annual worship service is called partnership Sunday, and the order of the service is similar at both the Kirwa “A” chapel and in our own worship. On that day, we will both read the same Scriptures, and preaching will contain similar messages.

CHANCEL CHOIR

The chancel choir sings anthems in a variety of genres and leads the singing of congregational songs. The chancel choir takes their music “on the road” twice a year when they celebrate the Lord’s Supper with the residents of Maple Valley Personal Care Home.

HANDBELL CHOIR

The handbell choir plays a few times each year, celebrating God’s love for beautiful music, with a three-octave bell and two-octave choir chime ensemble. The children’s handbell choir uses color-coded bells to play simple pieces, encouraging even the children who are timid singers to make a beautiful noise to the Lord.
